Serena Williams on Why She’s Chairing Oath’s Board of Advisors
After officially announcing her role as Chair of Oath's new Board of Advisors, Serena Williams came to Oath's New York headquarters on Monday, Nov. 6, to talk about her goals and values, and why she chose to team up with Oath.
The 23-time Grand Slam winner toured the office and then sat down with CEO Tim Armstrong for a fireside chat in front of Oath's leadership team and employees.
Elaborating on her 3-word oath – "Perseverance, determination, pioneer" – Serena stressed the value of goal setting, authentic storytelling, and positive teamwork as key to her success in her many endeavors.
"Surround yourself with people that really believe in the product just as much as you, if not more," Williams said, referring to her experiences as both an athlete and businesswoman. "It makes a huge difference."
As Board leader, she said she was looking forward to sharing her personal insights with our executive team, partnering with Oath for Good on philanthropic initiatives, and creating compelling content with Oath's brands.
"We have a major platform to reach over a billion people," she said. "We have a platform to make change."
