The days of never driving again and wow-that's-smart digital assistants are just around the corner. Now that the Consumer Electronics Show has wrapped, I'm ready to look at 2018 and pick which trends are here to stay and share how to make them work for you:

- New hardware and headsets will grow the VR market rapidly, and demand for content will skyrocket. It's a format where novelty and immersion provide untold opportunity. Beyond brand marketing, an immersive taste of a Hawaiian vacation and live product demos are already bringing highly-engaged users that much closer to the real thing.

- Self-driving cars are coming fast, and that means nearly 100 billion new hours of freetime for Americans. Transportation-as-a-service is a prime vehicle for ad-driven content. Imagine the opportunities a moving, rented platform will provide with the wealth of data we carry on our phones and in the cloud. Passing through downtown? Your favorite bistro just sent a coupon.

- The connected home is here. Even routine decisions, like buying groceries, will be radically shifted with automated ordering by the fridge and smart locks to let in deliveries. The purchase decision will move from the store to the home—subscription discounts and coupons are old, but the kitchen-as-a-platform is new.

- Your virtual assistant will finally understand you, and measuring intent will never be the same. Without asking, you'll see the cost of a ride to your flight, when to order anniversary flowers, and much more. The data and algorithms that power understanding will give us completely new metrics to bid on.
It's easy to look at a wave of change and wonder where it came from, but careful trendwatching will position you to win as tech upends markets. Find the ways your brand can integrate into the ever-changing future.
